Throughout The Years

Poipu Beach

A heavenly stretch of gold sand on the south coast of our island, Poipu Beach is the home of tropical bliss. Whether your idea of the perfect escape is sprawling out and soaking up the sun or plunging in the crystalline waves that gently roll in, it won’t take long to realize why this locale has been named one of the “Best Beaches in America” by Travel Channel.

Hurricane Iniki

One of the most powerful hurricanes to ever reach Hawaii in recorded history, the Category-4 Hurricane Iniki (meaning “strong and piercing wind”) hit on September 11th,1993 at peak intensity with average wind speeds measured at 145 miles per hour, as well as gusts that reached up to 225 miles per hour. Though it dissipated three days later on September 13 about halfway between Hawaii and Alaska, its effects were incredibly unprecedented.

As It Stands Today

In 2009, the resort was reborn and reconstructed to what is now the Ko`a Kea Resort—a celebration of the famed Poipu Beach Resort. Meaning “white coral” in Hawaiian, the new destination paid homage to the natural treasure found throughout the resort. Embodying rejuvenation from the sand to the suites, guests today will find delicate touches that stay true to the essence of our island, while welcoming in an undeniable sense of romance.
